"Springs Valley Bank & Trust invests in launch of Orange County Youth Mentoring" ProgramMay 17, 2021 |
Dianna Land, SVB&T Senior Executive Vice President, presented Team OC: Orange County Youth Mentoring with a $5,000 donation to help launch the program. Brandy Terrell, Thrive Orange County Chair, accepted on behalf of Team OC. “In 2019, Thrive Orange County hosted a community strategic planning event. During that meeting we discussed data-driven evidence-based opportunities for Orange County to become a safe, stable, nurturing community. Attendees broke into focus groups to provide recommendations,” said Terrell. “Creating a youth mentoring program was chosen as the top priority for our county. On behalf of the children and families we will serve in the future, Team OC is here today to thank SVB&T for their support.” Thrive Orange County’s desire to create a high-quality program led to submission of a request for technical assistance to National Mentor. When that request was funded, the group gained access to a consultant through the Indiana Youth Institute. The consultant worked with the Thrive Orange County mentoring advisory council to develop a high-quality program. The group used the adverse childhood experiences, or ACEs, survey data obtained from 7th through 12th graders at Springs Valley, Orleans, and Paoli Community Schools to customize the program for Orange County. “SVB&T is committed to growing a healthy community. We recognize the importance of all children having access to healthy adult relationships which promote and foster resiliency. said Dianna Land, SVB&T Senior Executive Vice President. “We believe in supporting programs that work to engage and serve our community. With this in mind, we are pleased so support Team OC in their mission to help children across Orange County become healthy, caring, responsible, and protective adults.” Team OC plans to begin matching 7- to 10-year-old students at Orleans, Springs Valley, and Throop Elementary Schools in August. The organization is in the process of hiring a part-time Executive Director who will launch the program with support from the Team OC board of directors. The position will ideally become full-time in the future to accelerate the growth of the program.
